Don Stabile
CHair, Advisory Board
Don Stabile taught economics for thirty-five years TO STUDENTS at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Author of twelve books on the history of economic thought, he established a reputation for scholarship in his field that was rewarded by publisher’s requests to review over a hundred books on economic theory. He was named an honorary alumnus of St. Mary’s in 2004 and appointed as St. Mary’s first Professor of the College in 2005, from which he recently retired to join the Florida Park Service.
Dr. Stabile’s teaching specialty is behavioral economics and he provides a wealth of information to interns on just about any question they ask. His maternal grandmother Lena arrived in New York City in her early teens from Kyiv, Ukraine.
Jean Calmere and Nezia Munezero Kubwayo
Jean Calmere (JC) Kubwayo and Nezia Munezero Kubwayo are a dynamic Burundian-American couple dedicated to their family and their respective fields of engineering and humanitarian work. Together, they are proud parents of three wonderful children.
JC is a software engineer at JPMorgan Chase, where he focuses on modernizing the bank’s online trading platforms. With a background in structural bridge engineering, JC is propelled by a wealth of experience and a passion for innovation. He holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Morgan State University and is currently pursuing an MBA at Southern New Hampshire University.
Nezia is a dedicated advocate for social justice, human rights, and conflict resolution. With over 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, she currently serves as the Operations Director at mRelief, where she plays a crucial role in reshaping social services to uphold the dignity of all individuals. Nezia’s commitment to empowering underserved communities extends to her roles on the Board of Directors at iAct and the Advisory Council for Tuvugane. She is also pursuing a PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at Nova Southeastern University.
John Walker
John Walker lives in New York where he works as a marketing consultant. His business is called J. Walker Marketing and it focuses on helping clients use digital marketing to build awareness and growth.
John graduated from Middlebury College in 1988 with a degree in English and he began his career in the advertising industry. His volunteer work included stints on the board of the The Touchstone Foundation in Lancaster PA, an organization dedicated to improving behavioral health for children. John served as Board Chair from 2017-2019. John is married to Susan and they have three children. When not working, he and Susan spend as much time as possible at a remote cabin in the Adirondack Mountains.
H.T. Than
H.T. Than arrived in the United States when he was twelve, evacuated with his family on one of the last helicopters to leave Saigon on the evening of April 29, 1975, just before the city fell.
In his new hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, he gravitated to math and science before he knew English well. He earned a bachelor's degree at Boston University and a master’s degree at Rice University, and worked as a petroleum engineer for Exxon before returning for law school at BU. After several years working for a large law firm in New York City, he established the H. T. Than Law Group in Washington D.C. and began a long and successful career as a patent lawyer. He met his wife Kim Pham, also a Vietnamese refuge from Oklahoma, at BU.
Their love of hiking and nature is shared by their two sons and daughter. H.T. and Kim reside in Potomac, Maryland.
Jim Grube
Executive Director, Slack Farms Foundation
Jim Grube appreciates his advisory board every day. They bring good counsel and excellent editing skills. Their willingness to mentor interns is a great asset for a small foundation with a big mission.
Jim received his B.A. in history from Lebanon Valley College and enjoyed a twenty-five year career coaching football and lacrosse, first at the University of Delaware as a graduate assistant in football while pursuing graduate studies in history, then at Middlebury College as head lacrosse coach and assistant football coach for the Panther’s offensive line.
While secretary rules editor for the U.S. Lacrosse Association he honed his skills as a team member on boards. He served on the Maryland State Tourism Commission for several years and currently serves as chair of the St. Mary’s County tourism office non-profit board, Visit St. Mary’s. He has managed a fitness business, a bed and breakfast, and an events business. He currently manages the Slack Farms Foundation fundraising and programs. He and his wife Maggie reside in Leonardtown, Maryland with the blessing of both sons and their families living close by.
